SASKATOON - The Saskatoon Fire Department and Saskatoon Police Service both responded to a report early Wednesday morning involving a vehicle that crashed into a residential structure at the 1300 block of Latrace Road.

The police (2:30 a.m.) and fire (2:35 a.m.) received separate reports of the incident with the latter responding due to the vehicle possibly being on fire. No occupants, vehicle or house, were required to be extracted.

The police later arrested the 25-year-old driver after being discovered to be impaired, who is now facing two impaired driving related charges and one charge relating to dangerous driving. There were no injuries to the occupants of the home.

Saskatoon Fire, meanwhile, dispatched a ladder truck, one rescue unit, and the Battalion Chief to the scene of the incident that was first reported to be a motor vehicle accident. The first fire crew on scene determined that the vehicle and the house were not on fire.

Fire crews began to secure the scene in a safe manner by turning off the house’s natural gas and electrical services, shutting the vehicle off, and began conducting a search to ensure all occupants were safe.

The vehicle had damaged the staircase to the second level. A ladder was set up to a window on the second level to serve as a means of exit point out of the house. The occupant was assisted by firefighters using the interior stairs of the said structure and was not brought out using a ladder as earlier reported.

The scene was turned over by Fire officials to the Police Service for further investigation.
