The Town of Preeceville, Town of Sturgis and Village of Endeavour will all be voting on new or returning mayor positions and all councillors in the upcoming election.
Nominees have until October 7 to put their papers in for the race for a council position. Nomination forms can be picked up at the Town of Preeceville Office, Town of Sturgis Office and Village of Endeavour.
Election date is November 9 at the Preeceville Community Legion Hall in Preeceville, the Sturgis Community Legion Hall in Sturgis and in Endeavour at the Endeavour School Complex.
All potential individuals interested in joining council are encouraged to go to https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/municipal-administration/elections/running-for-municipal-office website to learn more about councils.
In the Town of Preeceville, Mayor Garth Harris and all councillors; Darin Newton, Welma Bartel, Stacey Strykowski, Sheldon Luciw and Brian MacDonald are up for election. There are a total of six seats for council that are up for election but one seat had previously been vacated and was not filled.
Harris has served four, four-year terms as Mayor, three years as a councillor and is unsure if he will run for the Mayor position again. He has seen many changes through the years and would not change anything he has set out to accomplish in the town as mayor. "Some of the biggest things we have dealt and will continue to deal with in the future is water issues in the town. We also need to build on our strengths to continue building and growing in the Town of Preeceville," he concluded.
In the Town of Sturgis, Mayor Alan Holmberg will not be running again for the mayor position. He has been mayor for four years and previously sat on council for 20 years. Joining him on the current council are: Daniel Wasylenchuk, Bert Suknasky, Conrad Peterson, Jennifer Bayer, Dale Bashforth and Perry Keller.
"I have been mayor for four years and have seen some changes through my term," said Holmberg. "We as a council focused on keeping everything operating smoothly for the growth and betterment of the community. We still have our own landfill site, we purchased a new backhoe and hopefully we will be purchasing a new pay loader next year. The equipment upgrade is required to replace aging equipment. When we have the community hall paid off in three years’ time we can focus on putting monies aside for a new water treatment plant."
In the village of Endeavour, Mayor Brad Romanchuk is unsure if he will run for the Mayor position which he has attained for the last four years. Previously he had been on council for two years prior to stepping up to the Mayor position.
"I have been mayor for four years and am proud to say approximately 90 percent of the goals I set out were accomplished, " said Romanchuk. “I am also the village’s maintenance person and I am getting very weary with the huge work load. I want to encourage the younger generation to get involved in our community to keep it thriving and growing."
The two village councillor positions are also up for election. Current councillors are Gary Walters and Alton Gregory.
