SASKATOON — The Saskatoon Fire Department responded to two structure fires on Saturday afternoon, March 4.

A single-family house in the 300 block of Carleton Drive saw heavy flames at the back of the structure.

SFD received the call about the Carleton Drive fire at 12:41 p.m. with three fire engines, one ladder truck, a rescue unit and the Battalion Chief being dispatched.

Fire crews relayed to dispatch that the house was fully involved and they identified heavy flames coming at the rear side of the structure. Utilities were shut down for scene safety.

Firefighters begin an exterior attack as other crews arrive and set up their hose lines to help battle the fire.

After an hour of battling the fire, the SFD dispatch sent a relief crew for additional support.

A separate structure fire was reported at 1:36 p.m. in the 200 block of Avenue D South, with the source being identified inside the bathroom in one of the suites of the multi-residential complex.

Firefighters assisted residents in evacuating the building as alarms continued ringing that warned them of the emergency.

SFD crews quickly knocked down the fire and they began ventilating the building. They continue to check the walls and ceiling for any fire extension.

More information will be provided once the fire investigators conclude with their inquiry on the cause of the separate fires.
