Saskatoon police make arrest in May 19 homicide

Saskatoon police have released the name of a May 19 homicide victim, 35-year-old Brandon Baxandall.

SASKATOON — Saskatoon police have arrested a 35-year-old in connection to the homicide on May 19. He is charged with first-degree murder and will appear in court Tuesday, May 24.

The victim has been identified as Brandon Baxandall.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with video evidence or information believed to be relevant is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Reports of shots being fired and the discovery of a body prompted investigation by members of the Major Crime, Serious Assault and Forensic Identification Sections.

Saskatoon Police Service received the initial report at approximately 4:30 p.m., May 19. An injured man was reported to be in the 100 block of Main Street East. Shortly after, additional calls to police reported shots being fired in the 700 block of Melrose Avenue. In addition, another injured male was reported to have been transported to City Hospital.

Upon arrival at the 700 block of Melrose Avenue, responding officers located a deceased male behind an apartment building.

On May 20, police announced they were looking for video of two men of slim build seen fleeing the area in dark clothing; one carrying a bag with a strap. Investigators requested residents in the area enclosed by Saskatchewan Crescent East, Victoria Avenue, Main Street, and the Idylwyld Drive Freeway with access to security cameras to review the footage between 4 and 5 p.m. on May 19 for signs of suspicious activity.
