Yorkton Council unanimously voted to declare September as Big Brothers Big Sisters Month in the city. The request was made by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and Area at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

While rain has been an issue capital works projects undertaken by the City this summer are progressing well. That was the message Yorkton Council heard Monday in a presentation by Brian Stanicki – Assistant Director Public Works.

The Canora Ag Days, held on August 13 and 14 at the sports grounds, received “nothing but positive response,” said Kelly Ostafie, president of the Canora Agricultural Society.

The Pensioners’ Prom returned to Canora this summer with another successful get-together, said Darlene Senkow, one of the event organizers. Over 80 people attended the events spread over the weekend from August 5-7 at the Rainbow Hall in Canora.

A hairdresser is opening a new wedding rental business in Canora to give brides and their families help in decorating for a special day.

Dana Antonovich, general manager of the Gateway Co-op announced the beginning of construction for a new gas station and convenience store by holding a groundbreaking ceremony on August 19.

Though much has changed in the past 75 years, what hasn’t changed is the huge number of pilgrims who travel to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in Rama for the annual pilgrimage, said Mary Kowalyshen, an event organizer.
