Fewer injuries and fatalities on Saskatchewan roads thanks to safer driving by Saskatchewan motorist

Safer driving has led to 19 per cent fewer fatalities and 18 per cent fewer injuries in the first year of tougher traffic safety laws, according to preliminary numbers from SGI. The numbers are for the yearlong period July 1, 2014June 30, 2015.

Flu vaccinations across the province began October 19

The publicly-funded influenza (flu) vaccine became available in Saskatchewan beginning October 19. All residents six months and older can receive it for free.

Recycling levy likely to rise

The monthly recycling levy in Yorkton may be about to increase. At least that was the request from the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, Yorkton branch at the regular meeting of Yorkton Council Monday.

Veteran’s Week set

Veteran’s Week has been declared in Yorkton for Nov. 5-to-11. It was a unanimous decision by Yorkton Council after receiving the request from the General Alexander Rose Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Brick mill work continues

Work on saving the old brick mill in Yorkton will continue. At its regular meeting Monday Yorkton Council unanimously supported the Yorkton Brick Mill Heritage Society continuing its work.

Day marks fight against polio

The Rotary Club of Yorkton appeared before Yorkton Council Monday to request World Polio Day be declared in the city for Oct. 23. Local Rotary president Andrew Rae made the presentation noting polio means different things to different people.

Ladies Night Out held

A very successful “Ladies Night Out” sponsored by the Bredenbury Golf Club was held this past weekend at the Bredenbury Hall. There are so many people to thank for making this event such a success.
