Autumn Ashcroft heading to Worlds, Bazin continues strong performance

The 2011 Yorkton Elementary Schools Sports Association (YESSA) badminton tournament was held Thursday night at the Gloria Hayden Community Centre and MC Knoll/St. Michael's gyms. Over 100 matches were played out involving approximately 160 athletes.

They started the tournament looking pretty good and they ended it looking pretty good too. If there were any concerns about goal-scoring for them, there aren't any now.

The Terriers have stayed atop the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Sherwood Conference growing their lead to seven points, thanks to straight wins. This week's work leaves the Terriers with a record of 32-15-2-4 for 70 points.

The Yorkton Harvest got three of a possible four points throughout Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action over the past seven days.

The Yorkton Raider boys' basketball team went off to Prince Albert over the weekend and ran into some stiff competition, says coach Jason Payne. In three games, the team got a win against Saskatoon's Mount Royal. YRHS won the game 56-37.

The NFL season came down to Sunday night and for the first time since 1997, the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl, a 31-25 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Yorkton Speed Swimming Club took to the later at the Lawson Aquatic Centre in Regina recently. Head coach Ashley Benko had 13 of the club's competitive swimmers take part in the Regina Optimist Dolphins swim meet.

The YRHS curling teams took part over the weekend in district curling held at the Yorkton Curling Club and two of their three teams are qualified for regionals, said Grant Bjornerud, head coach of all three teams.

A former Terrier was in Yorkton last week to help current Junior netminders Devin Peters and Warren Shymko sharpen their games on the eve of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League playoffs.
