Yorkton This Week

The Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan has asked the Federal Government to recognize the Ag Industry’s efforts to combat climate change and reconsider the financial effects a Carbon Tax would have on the province’s farmers.

It is hard to believe, but the genetic engineering technology that gave us herbicide resistant canola, corn and soybeans is yesterday’s science.

So last week I wrote about why preserving rare breeds is important. And now a new technology has emerged to help do just that, preserve rare and important livestock genetics.

Welcome to Week CCXXV of ‘Fishing Parkland Shorelines’. Like most of us I am a novice fisherman, loving to fish, but far from an expert.

Keen observers near the Yorkton Airport on a recent Monday spotted a lot more than clouds and birds. A massive plane was flying above the airport. It was dropping packages and even people to the earth. Luckily, they had parachutes.

This week, in 1944, Kamsack, Sk. was hit by a massive tornado. At that point the worst cyclone in the history of Northeastern Saskatchewan, according to the Yorkton Enterprise, the tornado hit Kamsack from the southeast between nine and ten p.m.

The Saskatchewan Science Centre is trying something new. They’ve done a camp for kids for years, but now they’re taking that camp on the road, coming to Yorkton for their first satellite day camp.

Last Thursday, Canadian Wrestling Elite (CWE) returned to Yorkton with an event that had the crowd cheering all night. Held at Yorkdale Central School, the event (Nightmare on Elite Street) drew in one of the biggest crowds yet.

Cathay Wagantall, MP for the Yorkton-Melville riding, is meeting with veterans across the country this summer to discuss possible solutions to their problems.
