Yorkton This Week

Edith Maddaford has been reappointed to the Saltcoats Housing Authority Board of Directors. Other members of the board of directors are Sharon Gibler, Len Cameron, Betty Michael and Cameron Louttit. Maddaford is chairperson.

Two youths accused of killing a 67-year-old Yorkton man last fall have pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and robbery with violence charges. Lawrence Skoretz was found unresponsive on Wellington Park Road at approximately 5:15 a.m.

A judge has denied bail to a 50-year-old area man on crystal meth trafficking charges. Karl Vopni was arrested January 26 following a traffic stop in Yorkton. Police allege that a subsequent search of the vehicle, turned up 5.

In a country like Canada, the winter months are going to typically result in some water main breaks in most of our cities. Yorkton is no exception, and city administration hopes that people of the city can help them deal with the problem.

Yorkton Council made a decision at their last regular meeting to make a rather significant change to how they will go about their regular business moving forward.

Dear Editor: People don’t know what to do when it comes to mental health. If you were to have a heart attack, people around you know what to do. If you are having temporary, occasional chest pains you know where to go and who to talk to.

Dear Editor: Prosperity What is prosperity? To me it would seem a roof over your head, adequate clothing, healthy food, clean water to drink as well as clean air to breath; loving supporting family and meaningful employment cover most of the basics.

The Yorkton RawTec Maulers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League had one game over the past week. It was played on home ice at the Farrell Agencies Arena – their first game at home since returning from the Christmas break.

Over the past week, the Yorkton Terriers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League played two games, both of which were on the road. On Friday, Jan. 13, the Terriers headed to Flin Flon to play the Bombers.
