Yorkton This Week

Each year the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association presents Meritorious Awards at its annual convention.

The mood in civic politics in Yorkton appears to be one of unease. At the very least there is increased interest in being part of the process as a record number of candidates have put their names forward for the Oct.

Crowds piled into Century Field at Yorkton Regional High School for the fifth annual Friday Night Lights game this past weekend to watch the hometown Raiders face the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones.

The Yorkton Public Library is open at 9 a.m. Monday-Friday. --- Fall Outreach Supper at St. Mark Orthodox Church, 160 Betts Ave., Yorkton - Sun., Oct. 23. Service of Thanksgiving 5 p.m. Supper to follow. Admission: freewill offering.

Ernie Zookewich, formerly of the Willowbrook district, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2016 at St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Saskatoon. He was 81 years old. He had been a resident of the Home since March 25, 2015.

Alice Oystryk, resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, beloved wife of Sam Oystryk of Yorkton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. She was 93 years old.

David "Dave" Horaska was born on January 9, 1939 on the family farm near Calder, SK, the son of Alex and Helen (nee Rurak) Horaska. He passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. He was 77 years of age.

Alexandra (Sandra) Dawson passed away on September 15, 2016 at the age of 82 after a sudden illness.

Roy Haas. The family of Roy Mike Haas announce his passing on Tuesday, September 20 at the age of 78. Roy was born in Saltcoats, SK on February 10, 1938.
