Yorkton This Week

The Yorkton Lions Wine Festival is entering its fifteen years. The event has grown steadily from its inception, and the plan is to grow it even further in the coming years.

The Yorkton Legion Hall is officially for sale.

With proceeds slated for the Yorkton Community Center the inaugrual edition of Rally in the Alley was held in downtown Yorkton last Wednesday (Sept. 14).

It starts with a drum roll, two sticks beating on a snare. It is immediately apparent this drummer is good, but as the camera pans out viewers are in for a surprise. The drumsticks are being held between toes.

On Thursday, Sept. 15 there were 726 kids from around the region who took part in the 15th annual YRHS-Cherrydale Run for Peace. This cross-country meet hosted children from the third grade all the way up to grade twelve.

Fall might be upon us, but that has not slowed down the growing interest in disc golf.

The Sacred Heart boys’ soccer team started their season at a tournament in Kipling on Sept. 16 and 17. The team is coming off of two consecutive provincial silver medals.

On Sunday, Sept. 18 approximately 200 motocross riders from around Saskatchewan gathered for a day of racing at the Millstone Raceway in Yorkton. Riders as young as four took part in the race.

In the light of the deaths of 14 dogs at a Saskatoon kennel recently, a Yorkton woman is hoping her similar experience with a Saltcoats kennel will lead to changes in the way the Province regulates pet boarding businesses.
