Yorkton This Week

Today's farmers and ranchers can be a funny lot. They spend much of their lives before the computer as the newly crowned kings of the information age, capable of gleaning the smallest tidbit of information.

After a couple of years in what might best be called a hiatus, the Yorkton United Way is back with plans for fundraising including a residential blitz in September and a business canvass in October.

The Yorkton Storm Speed Swim Club concluded their season by attending the Mike Mintenko 47th Annual LC Summerfest Invitational and "A" Provincial/Junior Cup Swim Meet in Moose Jaw. Twenty-one swimmers from the club took part in the meet.

The Yorkton Sask Abilities Centre on Ball Road now has an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) thanks to a presentation Friday by The Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF).

A short film produced by Yorkton's Terry Ortynsky garnered some critical acclaim last week on the international festival circuit.

On Thursday, August 2, 2013 Jamie Josh Srochenski, James as he was known to friends, passed away suddenly at the age of 40 years. He was born on June 8, 1973.

The United Way in Yorkton is re-organizing with a new board of directors and renewed enthusiasm. That enthusiasm starts with the new board's head Marjorie Smith.

Madchild is headed to Holly's Nite Club in Yorkton. Madchild might still be best known as part of Swollen Members. Swollen Members have been an underground anomaly for more than a decade with worldwide success and accolades.
