Update: Smoking material caused fire leaving one dead in Regina

An investigation by both Regina Fire and the Coroners Service is currently underway.

REGINA — Update: Fire investigators have determined the cause of the blaze to be the careless use of smoker’s materials.

Authorities are working closely with the Saskatchewan Coroner Services to find out the cause of death.

Original post: A fire in the 2500 block of Elliott Street has led to the Regina Fire and Saskatchewan Coroners Service launching an investigation after a body was recovered.

Fire crews responded to the fire at around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, where they discovered a body as they searched the home.

“Firefighters witnessed heavy smoke and fire conditions on the home’s main floor,” Regina Fire said in a post to X.

An investigation by both Regina Fire and the Coroners Service is currently underway.
