Prince Albert man handed prison sentence for manslaughter

He was originally charged with first-degree murder.

PRINCE ALBERT – Twenty-seven-year-old Henry Ratt was sentenced in Prince Albert Provincial Court to 1,966 days in prison in the death of Jeremy Starblanket.

Ratt pleaded guilty on March 19 to the reduced charge of manslaughter. He was also banned from owning firearms for life and ordered to provide his DNA to the National DNA Data Bank.

When Ratt was arrested in February 2023 he was originally charged with first-degree murder. He was one of four people charged in Starblanket’s death.

In July 2021, Loretta Sakebow was charged with second-degree murder. In October 2023, she pleaded guilty to arson and disregard for human life and was sentenced to five years in prison.

In February 2023, Darren Masuskapoe and Keyano Ahenakew were charged with first-degree murder. The charge against Masuskapoe was stayed. Ahenakew pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of obstruction and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

Starblanket’s body was found at the scene of a house fire in the 500 block of 5 Street East in Prince Albert on March 20, 2021. Prince Albert Fire Department said the explosion at the house blew the building off of its foundation.
