SASKATCHEWAN – Sask. RCMP responded to three fatal collisions over the Canada Day long weekend.
On June 30, at about 10: 30 p.m., Wadena RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on Fishing Lake First Nation. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 52-year-old man from Fishing Lake First Nation. His family has been notified.
Also, on June 30, at about 3:30 p.m., Beauval RCMP received a report of a single vehicle rollover on Canoe Road, south of Canoe Narrows. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 27-year-old man from Beauval. His family has been notified.
On July 2, at about 5:15 a.m. Morse RCMP received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Highway 1, near Chaplin. The police investigation determined the vehicle left the road and plunged into a body of water. The 36-year-old man from Sherwood Park, Atla., was pronounced deceased by EMS at the scene. His family has been notified. The adult female passenger was transported to hospital via STARS with injuries described as serious.
The collisions remain under investigation, say police. Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionists and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are assisting.
From Jan. 1 to July 2, 2023, Sask. RCMP have responded to 26 fatal collisions, two less than over the same period in 2022. Twenty-seven people have died as a result of collisions in 2023, six less than over the same period last year.
