SASKATOON — Saskatoon Police have charged a 45-year-old man with arson following a grass fire over the weekend.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., April 29, patrol officers responded to a fire in the 2600-block of St. Henry Avenue. Police located a large grass fire in Diefenbaker Park spreading to the train tracks.
A witness had observed two male suspects walking away from the fire. Police say officers quickly located and spoke to them.
One of the males was taken into custody without incident. A bottle of liquor and a lighter was found on his person.
The man charged in the incident is expected to make his first court appearance on June 6.
Property damage from the fire was believed to be extensive, say police.
