SASKATOON – Schools were locked down in the area of Kloppenburg Link Friday morning after police got a report of an armed man. Saskatoon police say that at about 9 a.m. several police units responded to the area of Kloppenburg Way near Kloppenburg Link.
Police say their investigation determined the man was authorized to carry a firearm and there was no threat to public safety.
Saskatoon Police Service spokesperson Joshua Grella told SASKTODAY.ca that the "continued investigation determined that it was a person who is authorized to carry a firearm as a function of their employment and was doing so in execution of their regular duties. This person was not a member of the Saskatoon Police Service."
Grella said that the person was in a uniform and operating a marked vehicle.
"This was largely a misunderstanding and no crime was committed, I won’t be able to elaborate on which agency it involved," said Grella. "The important part is that we were very quickly able to confirm that there was no threat to public safety."
The perimeter lock downs have since been lifted.
