SASKATOON – A Yorkton man is dead after a five-ton truck collided with a cargo van early Wednesday afternoon on Highway 16, about 99 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon, just west of Plunkett.
Saskatoon RCMP say that the 40-year-old driver of the five-ton truck was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been offered. He was the only person in the truck.
Two people in the cargo van were taken to hospital. The driver remains in hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger has since been released.
Highway 16 was blocked during the initial police investigation and was reopened to traffic around 7 p.m. Wednesday. Saskatoon RCMP would like to thank motorists in the area for their cooperation throughout the investigation. Saskatchewan RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, STARS, Watrous and Lanigan EMS along with Viscount Fire and Rescue assisted.
