Harry passed away peacefully in Shellbrook Hospital on December 3, 2014, at the age of 87. He was born April 7, 1927 to Nykola and Lulia (Stasyk) on the Homestead in the district of Glaslyn.

The Battlefords North Stars (15-9-5-0) played well on Saturday, but couldn’t put an end to their losing streak as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the defending RBC Cup champion Yorkton Terriers (10-15-1-2).

The Meota Combines (2-2-0-0) and Battleford Beaver Blues (2-1-0-0) won all their games this past week, going a combined 3-0. The Beaver Blues played just one game, they travelled south to Perdue and picked up a 5-1 win over the Pirates (0-6-0-0).

It is hard to believe that already we are into December. ‘Tis the season to adorn our homes with beautiful living plants and help brighten our shorter days with colour. What a wonderful way to help winter become more bearable.

Wilfred "Lorne" Edwards passed away peacefully in the early morning of December 4, 2014. Lorne was born September 6, 1940 at Turtleford, Sask.

I was struggling for a topic to write about until I walked into Shoppers Drug Mart one day and saw a big, stuffed Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer for sale. The reindeer looked just like he did on the holiday specials I remembered seeing on TV.

Tuesday is the first of three nights of musical entertainment at John Paul II Collegiate. Back to the 1980s is this year’s foray into musical theatre.

He’s a cast member of one of Canada’s most prestigious theatre companies and, although his immediate family no longer resides here, he still comes “home” to the Battlefords.

Once again, it was a solemn occasion as the women who were the victims of the Montreal Massacre were remembered at the Territorial Place Mall Cafe. Dec. 6 marked the 25th anniversary of the shootings at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal.

Layne Young had three points to lead the Battlefords AAA Stars (16-5-0-0) over the Beardy’s Blackhawks (5-13-0-1) 4-1 Thursday. Young scored twice and assisted on another as every goal scored in the game came in the third period.
