One of the most dismal parts of winter can be the lack of local fresh produce in our kitchens. However, with a few seeds and some water; fresh, nutrient rich sprouts can be grown as local as in your own kitchen, year round.

The kickoff to the Empty Stocking Fund's campaign for 2014 has already seen an influx of money to help those in need. Executive Director Bill Hall reports that over $1500 was raised from their beef on a bun event last Wednesday.

Stewart and Phyllis Cunningham enjoyed a week in London, England to take in the Nov. 11 celebrations of 100 years since the start the First World War. We saw the spectacular poppies at the Tower of London. A very powerful experience.

Sunday we enjoyed some sunshine after a few days of rain, snow, and colder temperatures. Nov. 22 was all snow, so we woke up to a white world again.

North Stars tame Broncos 4-2, extend coach/GM

Spencer Tremblay made 32 saves and Connor Vermeulen had three points as the Battlefords North Stars (15-5-5-0) defeated the Humboldt Broncos (12-11-1-0) 4-2 at the Civic Centre on Tuesday night. It was the Broncos' third loss in a row.

Snack up in smoke

A case of unattended cooking brought North Battleford Fire Department trucks and personnel to Valley View Towers I at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. According to the fire department, alarms were set off, but there were no injuries or damage.
