GRATTON: Omer Joseph was born on February 27, 1925 on his parent's farm near St. Hippolyte, SK. He was the fourth oldest son of John and Marie Gratton. He had 3 sisters and 7 brothers. He married Melvina Ledoux on August 26, 1946.

NYHOLT: Allan John Nyholt passed away peacefully with family by his side on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Allan was born May 31, 1926, the first of four boys born to Wierd and Ida Nyholt of North Battleford, SK.

The dream

When I was married, my husband and I purchased a 10-acre plot of undeveloped land in northern Alberta. We were young, full of dreams and high hopes. ?? Our plan was to clear the land, buy and build a garage package (which would become our home).

We are having really nice weather this past week. Hopefully we can continue and get this crop off in good shape. Have a safe and bountiful harvest, everyone. On the home front, we are still struggling with our swathers.

The Battlefords recently became home to the prairie chapter office of the International Society of Arboriculture. Worldwide, there are over 20,000 members. The prairie chapter, which includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, has about 350 members.
