Nominations have closed in the byelection race to fill the open seat on North Battleford city council. A total of three candidates have filed their nomination papers at City Hall in time for the 4 p.m. deadline Wednesday.

It is a small committee of eight that plans an evening to recognize those in the community who help make it shine.

The City of North Battleford intends to push forward with creating a new opportunity plan for the area.

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the induction of two nominees. The Climax Cardinals baseball team will be inducted into the team category. The Varjassy family of Kipling will be enshrined in the family category.

The Maymont Memorial Hall annual meeting will be held March 19 at 7:30 p.m. If you would like to be on the hall committee or one of the executive members, that would be the night to be there. Everyone is welcome.

Teams from the Northwest failed to advance past the regional round in the SHSAA's Road to HOOPLA last weekend. There were 15 teams between the boys' and girls' divisions that qualified for regionals.

These days, one cannot imagine the town of Battleford without Gordon Yarde. He has been active in civic politics as a member of town council for 18 years, and his community involvement goes back even longer to the 1970s.

Cards were played Feb. 24 at the Maidstone Drop In Centre with Dorothy Schwartz hosting and supplying lunch. High score went to Dorothy Schwartz and low went to Dorothy Kissick. It was a cold day at -40 C with the wind chill. Bingo was played Feb.
