Derailment scene cleared

Unity/Wilkie/ Macklin RCMP have cleared the scene of a train derailment just West of the Town of Landis. Sixteen cars derailed about about 4:50 a.m. Wednesday sparking a grass fire doused by the Wilkie and Biggar fire departments.

A North Battleford man faces child pornography charges after a search warrant was executed at a residence Tuesday. Charged is Brian J. Simon, age 50. His first date in provincial court is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 21.

School cancelled for derailment

School was cancelled in Landis Wednesday as a precaution after 16 cars went off the CN rail line just west of the town. The derailment caused a grass fire, which was extinguished by the Willkie and Biggar fire departments.
