A 90th birthday tea was held for Ann Kohut of Borden, Aug.

The last part of August has residents busy with garden processing, harvest preparation or lingering in the last few weeks of summer. School staff returned to school Aug. 26 and students will join them in the hallways Sept. 3.

Federated Co-operatives Ltd. has announced it is increasing its involvement in the agriculture service sector through the purchase of 17 fertilizer, seed and agriculture chemical supply centres from Viterra Inc., including the North Battleford site.

"Daddy, Daddy! They're dropping off the recycling bins!" Katrina was thrilled. She, Spencer and I ran out into the front yard in time to see the crew assemble our new large blue roll-out recycling bin.

Albert Headrick is now on the job as North Battleford's new fire chief. He started work Aug. 15, and was introduced to North Battleford city council Aug. 19 by Deputy Chief Brian Wilson. The following day, he met with the media at the fire hall.

City council in North Battleford has given the go-ahead to a local improvement on Pioneer Avenue. The improvement covers Pioneer Avenue from Battleford Road to 114th Street with $189,293.10 to be paid by the municipality and $140,253.

The case against the man who led police on a 90-minute chase in the Northwest region will see his case return to North Battleford Provincial Court Sept. 18.

It's been a week of goodbyes. While one was a final farewell, the other two were of the "until we meet again" variety. All were accompanied by mixed emotions. First there was the return of two young men to their native land.

WILLETT: Clara Edna Willett of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2013 at the age of 88.

The North Battleford centennial committee has Dec. 31 circled on their calendar for the last major event of the celebration year. That will be the closing ceremonies, which will take place at the CUPlex.
