Bjorkdale News: Hockey season starting up

Events in Bjorkdale, like hockey, curling and school, are starting back up again.

BJORKDALE — The Bjorkdale skating rink and curling rink have both been in full swing as games have started and both facilities are busy as ever.

The Bjorkdale under 9 Bruins had their first home game on Dec. 29 against the Arborfield Flyers. It was a close game with the flyers winning with a score of 9 – 7. Their next home game is on Thursday, Jan. 12th at 5:30 p.m.

The under 11 combined team of Bjorkdale and Arborfield will play their first game in Bjorkdale on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Grayson Vecchio and Aubrie Johnson were able to officiate their first hockey game as well. They both did a great job.

The Bjorkdale After School program will continue to host Friday night skating. This program will run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays with a student leading and organizing games and activities on the ice. This program is for kids ages four to 12 years old and will start Friday Jan. 13.

The Bjorkdale curling club has just started up and running and have league curling every Tuesday and Wednesday. The bonspiel schedule has just come out. Their Farmers' Spiel is scheduled for Jan. 20 and 21. To register a team contact Vern at 306-873=0459 or Marty at 306-873-7892

Over the Christmas break the Bjorkdale library hosted a Lego building program with two student presenters, Grayson Vecchio and Deklan Kehrig with Sherry Fredsberg helping organize the event. Fifteen students attending on Jan. 3 at the school. Beth Bentz and the Bjorkdale Library are also hosting a Noctural/Night Scene paint program on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Contact the Bjorkdale Library at 306-886-2119 to register.

School is back in session on Monday, Jan. 9 and students were back in class in Bjorkdale.
