It was a slow start but a big finish for the Humboldt Broncos at the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Showcase held in Weyburn over the weekend. The Broncos faced the Nipawin Hawks on December 4 in their first game of the weekend.

Seven members of the Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks nine-man football team were honoured at the Saskatchewan Grid Iron Awards banquet held November 4 in Martensville.

Despite the cold, which leads most people to believe that lakes and streams in the area have frozen, that's not the case. Water is still flowing into lakes in the Humboldt region and rising water levels continue to threaten roads.

The basketball season in the Humboldt region was kicked off on December 3-4 with a tournament in Middle Lake. The Three Lakes Avengers' senior boys' basketball team hosted their annual tournament on the weekend.

We've heard about it in other communities and now Humboldt is facing the same situation - we are short of doctors. Prior to November 1, 2010, we were functioning reasonably well with the patient flow at the Humboldt Clinic.

It will be a New Year's present for all those hockey fans in the area.

They hit a milestone on Monday. The Good Neighbour Store in Humboldt handed out its yearly donations to local organizations and with that, went over the $1 million mark.
