CARROT RIVER — Luke Folk and Brennan Hall are excited to be leading the Carrot River Outback Thunder. Last week the Junior B team announced that Folk was its new head coach and that Hall would serve as general manager.

There was a theft right from Humboldt’s halls of justice. Sometime between Nov. 27 to Dec. 3 an antique paper cutter was stolen from the Provincial Court House in Humboldt.

For 16 seasons, Scott Barney has played professional hockey in a career that’s taken him all over the globe. Yet for the interim head coach of the Humboldt Broncos, his love for hockey had humble beginnings.

MELFORT — The driver of the semi-truck that collided with the Humboldt Broncos’ team bus has pled guilty to all the charges he was facing.

The Horizon School Division has moved into its brand new, $6.2 million, 22,780 square feet office building.

MELFORT — Melfort Mustangs forward Justin Ball has been on an incredible tear this season. As of Sunday, Ball led the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with 40 goals and 66 points in 37 games.

For Humboldt mayor Rob Muench, 2018 saw the city progress in replacing infrastructure and promoting business growth despite a major tragedy.

MELFORT — The Melfort and District Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire involving a Petro-Canada fuel transport truck on Highway 3 east of Melfort. On the morning of Jan. 4, a fire started on the vehicle’s rear set of wheels.

NIPAWIN — The Town of Nipawin passed a new animal control bylaw requiring any owner of a dog or cat six months or older to obtain a town issued licence. This was passed with a number of other bylaws by the Nipawin council on Dec 10.

For local MLA Donna Harpauer, the highlight of 2018 was tabling her first budget as finance minister.
