MELFORT — Social Services Minister Paul Merriman recognized Melfort resident Cadence Flaata as a junior minister. She was presented the title for October being the month of inclusion in Saskatchewan.

An 11-year-old Humboldt resident was one of 28 people selected by the JDRF to go to Ottawa to lobby parliamentarians about Type 1 diabetes funding. Duke Brochu was chosen to go to Ottawa Oct.

A local legend who was the namesake of Humboldt’s arena has died. Elgar Petersen passed away at his Cudworth nursing home on Nov. 3 at the age of 82. Jamie Brockman, the Bronco’s president, said Petersen meant a lot to his team.

A stop in Humboldt will be part of the first cross-country torch relay for the Canada Winter Games. The torch started its journey at the Centennial Flame in Ottawa Oct. 4. It will stop in Humboldt Nov. 7 before it goes west to BC.

NIPAWIN — The Nipawin Hawks is having their second annual Sports Gala. The fundraising event takes place Nov. 17 at the Evergreen Centre in Nipawin.

CODETTE — Reported crimes since April have been down for the Nipawin RCMP. “The bulk of our crime is in the Town of Nipawin, we’re seeing a little sneak more out to the outskirts, the rural areas,” said Cpl.
