It was a rebuild year for the Melfort Mustangs last season – something that showed in their financial statements. Revenues in the 2016-17 season were slightly more than $455,000, compared to slightly more than $734,000 the previous season.

Discovery Ford opened up their lot for car enthusiasts to show off their classic, vintage, antique and custom Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln vehicles at the sixth annual Discovery Ford Classic Car Show on Aug. 12.

There will be four candidates running to fill the empty spot on Nipawin’s council. Janice Boughen , Les McBain , Kelly Peterson and Mary Kube will run for the seat left open by the resignation of Marla Walton . The election will be held Sept. 20.

An aunt-niece team read out their first children’s book to the patrons of the Melfort Library. Angela Joelle grew up around Melfort and Star City, but now works as a visual artist in Vancouver. Her niece Brynna Beaupre is from Regina.

A collision on HWY 5 on Aug. 10 involving two vehicles sent three people to hospital in Saskatoon, according to Humboldt RCMP.

Two local fishers won one of the flagship fishing tournaments in this province. Spencer Kozun of Nipawin and Wade Maynard of Carrot River won the Premier’s Walleye Cup on Tobin Lake with a total of 42.30 pounds of walleye.

The three Northeast Dairy Queen locations raised $24,009.73 for Miracle Treat Day. The national campaign, held Aug. 10, has each location donate the net proceeds from each Blizzard to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

I do not always get the chance but this year a group of us took the opportunity to visit Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan and their wonderful performance of Twelfth Night.
