More was at stake in Humboldt on Mar. 19 with the Saskatchewan Karate Association provincial tournament. Around 70 competitors from under 10 to black belts came from all around Saskatchewan to compete.

Lanigan Dance Dynamics hosted their 24th annual dance competition Mar. 18-20. Dance competition co-coordinator, Cindy Riemer, was very pleased with how the event turned out, saying the weekend was “excellent” and “wonderful.

Local teams went three for seven in their bids for high school provincial basketball championships. That also included two silvers, a bronze and a fourth.

The conversation about men’s tennis versus women’s tennis has been a long debated topic.

They wanted a ticket to BC, and they got it. That is how the Ministry of Social Services has dealt with two homeless men from Saskatchewan who landed in Vancouver on Mar. 9 to a hail of media attention.

The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce held the 17th annual Mark of Excellence awards night on Mar. 11 at the Humboldt Uniplex. The awards night recognizes companies and organizations from throughout Humboldt and District.

After being changed from a seniors club to a place for the whole community, the Humboldt Community Gathering Place has a new board of directors. The new board held their first official meeting as a full board on Mar. 9.

John Chick is well known for his defensive prowess, especially when he was a defensive end with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Off the field, he takes on a different role as a spokesperson for those with juvenile diabetes.

The City of Humboldt hosted their Spring City Wide Registration event at the Humboldt Uniplex on Mar. 10 with organizations from a number of different walks of life attending including sports and programs for youth and adults.

The City of Humboldt has received a lot of feedback from residents in the last few months; from the tradeshow, to the Multiplex open house.
