In school, it was always the ones you least suspect. The friends who were out partying all night. The friends who always appeared to be happy.

MERKOSKY: Peter Paul November 20, 1925 – January 29, 2016 The death of Mr. Peter Paul Merkosky of Jubilee Lodge, Kinistino, SK, (and formerly of LeRoy, SK), occurred at his residence on Friday, January 29, 2016. He was 90 years of age.

WOLSFELD: Celine July 7, 1923 – February 2, 2016 The death of Celine Wolsfeld of Saskatoon, SK, (and formerly of Muenster, SK), occurred at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. She was 92 year of age.

The traffic light at the Main Street and HWY 5 intersection is down after a Super B collided with the traffic pole and knocked it over at around 5:15 pm on Jan. 26. The driver tried to take a right hand turn from Main St.

Along with the usual budget discussion, four main points were discussed at the city’s budget meeting on Jan. 28.

Five local performers made for quite a concert to benefit the Syrian refugee family that will soon be coming to Humboldt. The Humboldt and Area Refugee Coalition put on the concert on Jan.

Athletes should be free to celebrate. There is a lot of commotion made these days about athletes and their celebrations, especially with Cam Newton of the Super Bowl bound Carolina Panthers.

Canadian Blood Services was in town last week to collect blood donations. Humboldt exceeded their goals on the number of donors which made Jeff Martel with Canadian Blood Services grateful for the generosity of Humboldt. There is more to be done.
