In the Community

Another CCA rodeo is in the books for Edam. The amateur bull riding was held Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. The top six of 20 riders moved onto the short go. Once again professional rodeo clown, Dennis Halstead, entertained those in attendance.

Jean Stewart has had an enjoyable week visiting with family and relatives. Sunday a niece, Monica and Brian Denis of Edmonton, Alta., nephew, Barry Innes of Tomahawk, Alta,, Laureen Innes of Winnipeg, Man.

The last few days have been much cooler. We did have some very warm weather previous to the cooler, cloudy time. It seemed much warmer because of the high humidity which is rather unusual in this area.

A birthday party was held on Aug. 21 for Lillian Cornell, who reached the age of 110.

Those Were the Days was held at the Western Development Museum Aug. 9 and 10. Stanley Mills spent a few days helping get some of the many old antique gas tractors ready for the show and daily parade.

A come and go tea commemorated 100 years since the building of the school that now houses the Fred Light Museum in Battleford Sunday.

Seniors from various locations joined the Maymont seniors Aug. 21 for an afternoon of entertainment and a supper provided by Maymont seniors.

The Battlefords Art Club has a long history of supporting visual arts in the community. It promotes exhibits of local work with the aim of encouraging its members in developing their potential for creating satisfying artwork in any medium.

Joyce and Gary Wappel were among the many people who spotted Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority's custom-made slot machine-shaped hot air balloon floating above the Battlefords at various times during Northwest Territorial Days.
