In the Community

Back in the beginning of October, I found myself facing what I call the season of eating.

With a variety of bands, choirs and talented performers, the Battlefords have a rich variety of musical offerings. And it seems this atmosphere will continue, as young, developing musicians excel in their music instruction.

Our sympathy to the Harbridge family on the passing of Bill Harbridge. Bill was a one time resident of Pine Island Apartments. Theresa Kennedy spent Christmas eve with her daughters, Kim and Jackie Gerbig and Buck and Jackie Gerbig.

Affinity Credit Union, Borden branch, collected non-perishable food for a local needy family before Christmas, and patrons got a chance to enter draws each time a food item was brought in.

The last day of school before winter holidays is often a day of celebration.

Christmas displays and lights in Waseca were exceptional this year. Congratulations to all who took the time and made the effort to make the village look beautiful at this special time of year.

A catered Christmas birthday supper and program was held at the Maidstone Drop In Centre Dec. 12 with approximately 100 seniors in attendance. Caterers were the Catholic ladies, who provided an abundant and delicious supper.

As 2010 is about to draw to a close, many of us tend to reflect on the year gone by. This tends to be a human characteristic that is genetically written into every race, creed and religious culture around the world.

The Rotary Club of the Battlefords had something special to celebrate as they gathered for their annual Christmas party - 90 years of serving the community and the world.

Every year, students at Notre Dame School raise money for humanitarian projects in developing countries. "Because we're a Catholic school, it's really important for us to promote stewardship among our students," said teacher Lindsay Charabin.
