Radisson Co-op held their supper and annual meeting March 20, in Radisson Tweedsmuir Hall, with close to 100 enjoying the roast beef supper catered by the Radisson Recreation Board. For the meeting, Bryan Clair was nominated chairperson and, after the agenda was approved, minutes from last year were read. There was no business arising from minutes.

The first to report was Robb Schmidt, general manager. Schmidt reported an exciting year with the purchase of Fountain's Liquor Store, having the lotto and signing with the Battlefords and District Co-op to deliver fuel on their behalf. It wasn't always easy as they had four different drivers delivering fuel who all had to learn the area and the different tanks. Terry Fadish was a great help in that area. The co-op spent $44,000 on updating their till and staff had to be trained in using and uploading info on it. Now they communicate with Federated nightly via the Internet.

The co-op is also the STC bus stop and Suren is the main contact for that job. The co-op started the card lock project and this took a lot of planning and some disruption, but it has been operational since August 24, 2011, despite a few little bugs regarding the pump display.

This past year the co-op bought empty beer bottles and turned them over to the swimming pool to help them out. They hosted the District S11 annual meeting. They held a customer appreciation day and donated the proceeds to Radisson Cemetery and Glenburn Regional Park. They donated prizes to groups in Borden, Sonningdale, Maymont, Fielding and Radisson and also upgraded the big highway sign along Highway 16.

Robb thanked the staff for their exceptional effort during the takeover of the liquor store, card lock and STC bus depot.

Robb gave the financial report, showing sales of $4,368,116 for a gross margin of $315,468, with operating and administration costs of $495,898 for a loss of $163,675. However, because of all their increased buying from Federated, they had a patronage refund of $392,917, leaving a balance before taxes and refunds to members of $229,242. They gave 3.5 per cent back to the members, amounting to $131,618.

Gus Kindt gave a report on the 83rd spring convention and Beryl Bauer, vice-chair of the FCL board and director for District S11, reported on the great year that Federated had with $839 million in savings and $537 million in patronage refunds. He also told of the 14 co-ops amalgamating in 2011, the programs Federated donates to, convention highlights and the bulk plant and plywood plant. There are 23 co-ops in his district that had a 20 per cent increase in sales. There were 672 million litres of fuel sold in three districts.

Federated was appointed as auditor, then there was an election for a director as Marvin Schmidt of Sonningdale was stepping down after six years. Nominated were Lee Storm of Radisson and Everett Soule of Ruddell, with Everett being elected for a three-year term. Also on the board are Gus Kindt, Bryan Clair, Chris Schultz, Alvin Barth, Bruce Flath, all from Radisson, and Wade Schmidt from Ruddell. Winning door prizes were Lucille Wilkie, Harry Lerch, Gary Schmidt and Ethel Kuny.

The Borden Museum held their annual meeting last week and a new member on the board is Ilene Youchezin, with Heather Silcox as president, Helen Sutherland as secretary and Darlene Penner as treasurer. Dependent on getting a grant, the museum is looking for a student to work 30 hours per week Tuesday to Saturday, May 15 to Aug. 27. Students can go online to Young Canada Works Heritage, call Heather at 997-4919 or email fuhsilcox@sasktel.net for more info.

The Fielding Wildlife Federation will be hosting a Region 2 meeting at the Radisson Hall Apr. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a roast beef supper and entertainment. Advance tickets for the supper can be booked with Edna at 997-4924.They will hold their annual skeet and target shoot, along with a wiener roast, Apr. 15, starting at 2 p.m. at the Kieper Farm west of Radisson.

The choir of First Saskatchewan Lutheran Church south of Langham presented the cantata, Whispers of Passion, in the evening March 24 and afternoon March 25. Prelude music was played by Shirley Thiessen and Hilda Chappell, followed by a welcome from Brian Thiessen and Owen Westad. The director was Connie Neudorf, with Linda Hartshorn reading the soliloquies.

An excerpt written by the composer Joseph M. Martin stated that "as Lenten shadows fall, we silence ourselves to listen for that still small voice whispering in the night ...In the stillness of these sacred moments, pause in silent wonder at the miracle of mercy and surround your spirit with deep abundance of God's love. Come to the silence and solitude of the shadows and listen for the whispers of passion. Lay aside the clamor of the world, and for a season, lose yourself in the music of grace."

The choir sang A Solemn Invitation and, with the aid of a visual on a large screen, the soliloquy, Silent Witness-the Walls and Gates of Jerusalem, was read. Choir songs and soliloquies alternated, ending with the choir's moving rendition of O Love That Will Not Let Me Go, the final soliloquy of The Cross and closing with the choir singing Contemplation of the Cross.

Everyone was invited downstairs for coffee, punch, cake, hot cross buns or dainties to end a delightful afternoon.

With support and encouragement from The First Saskatchewan Lutheran Church congregation, the choir meets every Sunday after church service for a short practice.

Members say church choir music is a wonderful way to share faith with each other, the parishioners and the community at large. Cantata and concert performances help to enhance this experience.

Radisson Curling Club held their annual Shirtsleeve Bonspiel March 23 to 25 with 15 teams competing, mainly from Radisson but two from Langham and three from the Maymont area. Winning the A event was the Michael Hamp rink, beating out Fred Meister's team, both from Radisson. In the B event it was Allan Rogers of Maymont defeating Kim Skwark's team from Radisson and in the C event Dave Keyko of Hafford skipped a Radisson trio to win over Derek Murphy of Radisson.

Condolences go to Stan Foster of Borden on the loss of his brother-in-law, Eugene Dragan, who passed away March 21 at the age of 79, after a lengthy illness. Eugene was married to Stan's sister Margie and they lived in Saskatoon. The funeral is March 28 at Park Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Jack Carr officiating.
