It was a hot day leading up to the long weekend, but that didn't stop the city's talent from gathering downtown to raise money for the Credit Union CUPlex.

Friday's busking fundraiser called on street entertainers to perform for passing spectators in exchange for donations made to the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts.

"I'm ecstatic about it, I'm really happy with how the day went," said organizer Steve Courmons.

Courmons hoped to collect enough funds to buy a seat for the theatre, which go for about $500, but unfortunately came in short at $349.

A total of 15 volunteers participated in the event including several musicians, a three-piece clown ensemble and a bubble blowing hula-hoop act.

Later in the day, musicians formed a sharing circle and played their instruments in unison. They were joined by a talented young girl who played a small guitar and shared her own original songs with the group.

Participants agreed the event could be held annually to bring a positive vibe to the downtown core.

As for Courmons, he's already planning his next fundraising event, mentioning the Boys and Girls Club as a possible recipient.
