Cold snap was mercifully brief

The most recent cold spell, a short one, took place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the past week. The temperature Sunday was again up to - 5 C where it has remained during this evening. It has been a very different winter.

The most recent cold spell, a short one, took place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the past week. The temperature Sunday was again up to - 5 C where it has remained during this evening. It has been a very different winter. So far I have not had to use the snow shovel!

This week we were all saddened with the passing of Shirley Wesson. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all her family and friends but especially to her husband Ted and her children: Tanya, Guy, Bryan, Clinton and Marilyn and their families, who will miss the love and affection of a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Shirley always had the welfare of her family at heart and never missed an occasion to celebrate with them.

Shirley was born Shirley Kuntz, daughter of Ralph and Johanna Kuntz, at Wilkie. At a young age she became an integral part in the operation of the family farm where she grew up. She enjoyed farm life to the fullest and after her marriage to Ted Wesson in 1973 continued to be an important part of her husband's farming operation.

Together Shirley and Ted raised their five children, ran the farm and developed a beautiful farm yard. Shirley kept a greenhouse and for many years it supplied many gardeners with bedding plants. Her own yard was evidence of the beautiful flowers and garden produce grown from plants started in her greenhouse.

Shirley also made time for friends and neighborus who were always welcomed at their home.

Shirley passed away on Feb. 4 in a hospital in Saskatoon at the age of 63 years. Funeral service for her was conducted from Maidstone Legion Hall. She was laid to rest in St. Paul's churchyard, Forest Bank.
