Contest creates a winter wonderland

Season's greetings to all readers. It sounds as though travelling weather and roads will be favourable for Christmas and New Year's weeks. Waseca is well lit this year.

Season's greetings to all readers. It sounds as though travelling weather and roads will be favourable for Christmas and New Year's weeks.

Waseca is well lit this year. Many more Christmas lights are making the village look like a winter wonderland, without the snow.

During the past week some rural folk judged the lights. It was a difficult task. However, the result of the judging put Barb and Rodney Weisner in first place and Glen Sutherland and Maxine Noble in second place. Honourable mention goes to Pat and Neil Morrison and Brenda and Willie Pluhowy.

Morris and Renee Donvan have an amazing light display, but they live out of village limits.

Wednesday evening of this week prizes will be presented to the winners by Waseca Village and Waseca Recreation Board, who sponsored the lighting contest.

A big thank you to all who took time to plan and do a light display. It adds a lot to the village. Also thank you to the judges who came into the village a few times in the evenings to assess the lights.

Getting caught up with members of the Maxwell McPherson household, Robbie Maxwell is in his second year of tutoring and teaching English in Spain. He is again living in the Spanish fishing port of Vigo. Some of his holiday time has been spent visiting with his uncle and aunt, Ted and Barbara McPherson, who live and work in Asslar, Germany.

Ted and Barbara will spend Christmas with some of Barbara's relatives in Ireland.

Julie and Lynn Maxwell are both living and studying in Saskatoon and besides studying both are busy taking part in community activities. On the weekend of Dec. 9 they were visited by their parents, Jean and Jim. Dec. 11, they celebrated Jim's birthday. Four of Jim's siblings were present at the party and all enjoyed a good visit.

Happy holidays to all students. Dec. 21 is the last day of school of local students. University students were finished their semester Dec. 16.
