Harold Stephan, the founder and director of Crossman Ministries, was the guest speaker at Manitou Evangelical Free Church Jan. 22. Stephan and his wife, Diane, shared their vision for the Battle River Ranch Camp Life Skills Development Centre on Highway 17, south of Lloydminster. For many years he has dreamed of creating a place where men, women and children looking for a better life could be given the opportunity to learn about the purpose God has for them, to discover their gifts and to increase their value to society.

With the donation of a parcel of land adjacent to the highway, and the support of local churches and businesses, that dream is finally being realized. The first phase, in the establishment of this ministry, is the construction of a lodge and coffee shop. Eventually the program will have several other areas including building ready-to-move homes, operating a coffee shop/gift shop, operating a greenhouse and offering horsemanship skills.

Manitou Lake Bible Camp is holding a Discipleship Workshop, Feb. 4 on the topic of mentoring.

The Grade 7 and 8 classes at Neilburg Composite School are selling Bouma Meat barbecue roasts as a fundraiser. Orders will be taken until Feb. 8 with the roasts arriving for delivery in late February or early March. Meanwhile, the Grade 12 graduating class will be holding a fruit and cookie dough fundraiser with flyers going out in the mail. These items will arrive in the middle of March.

The Neilburg Legion is hosting their annual Robbie Burns Supper Jan. 28 in the Neilburg Community Hall, with a program to follow.

The Marsden/Neilburg Minor Hockey Association held a successful Minor Hockey Day Jan. 21. Teams came to play from Cut Knife, Vermilion, Tisdale, Lloydminster, Macklin and Edgerton. Games were played from 9 in the morning until 8 in the evening. Throughout the day the booth was run by volunteers from Manitou Evangelical Free Church - allowing the local parents to concentrate on their children instead of worrying about keeping the booth on track.

High school students at NCS wrote exams from Jan. 24 through 27. Semester break is on Jan. 30 and there is a PLC day Jan. 31. The new semester begins Feb. 1. All students enjoyed a couple of Snow Days last week due to the bitterly cold weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Do you use Campbell's soup and other products? Just a reminder to save your labels for NCS and either drop them off at the school or in the bin at the Co-op grocery store. Every label helps!
