Dog Day Afternoon at vet clinic Saturday

We are near the end of May.

We are near the end of May. Are you feeling like you have had a fair spring or are you still waiting and hoping for nicer weather to appear? And how about that three-day rain, didn't that green everything up!

This weekend you can take part in a Dog Day Afternoon at the Unity vet clinic, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a hot dog sale with proceeds going to Lend a Paw Animal Rescue. Also, local author, Cindy Blanchette, will be on hand signing copies of her new book Doully Tales, If you ever loved a dog. As well, the Lend a Paw organization will have their pets on site that are looking to be adopted to new homes.

Following their kickoff event, Unity Credit Union and Delta Co-op are partnering again to volunteer in their community next week as part of the Co-operative Week of Volunteering initiative. The UCU and Delta partnership have committed to erecting a sound booth/storage shed on the credit union diamond to complete this venue for its active use in ball season.

The Legion held a fundraising barbecue May 17 as they are still trying to raise funds for their new roof. The Saskatchewan-wide Legion is also looking to put out a military service recognition book Lest We Forget. This annual publication helps to identify and recognize many of the veterans of Saskatchewan who served their country so well during times of great conflict across the globe that involved Canadian soldiers.

The book is meant to honour our duties as "keepers of remembrance" so that no one forgets the selfless contributions made by our veterans. This book, when complete, will be made available free of charge to all Legion branches. Proceeds from this project are intended to further the aims and objectives of this great organization as well as supporting the many community and service programs performed by its volunteers. Think of where our local and school Remembrance Day programs would be without our veterans. The Saskatchewan Command office is looking to private citizens and business community members throughout Saskatchewan to generate support for this important project.

Coffee row, what can I say? Hockey talk is still lingering on hockey playoffs as the season comes to a close. They have also been throwing out predictions for the upcoming Rider season with the addition of some new faces on the roster. And seeding will be on the topic table until its completion, hopefully sooner than later ... depending on how long the rains last. So you see we keep busy in Unity with activities and wisdom from our friends on coffee row. Until next week ...
