Summer View, a 1988, oil on canvas, by Dorothy Knowles.

A new exhibition of landscape paintings by Saskatchewan artist Dorothy Knowles will be shown at the Chapel Gallery starting Nov. 1.

This exhibition is not to be missed. Knowles is internationally known for bringing images of prairie landscapes to the forefront of the art scene. This collection of 27 paintings, entitled Land Marks, is a retrospective glance at the work of someone who continues to inspire new artists with her distinctive style. Her work has been compared to Impressionism and she uses a range of media to create lush and evocative images of the landscapes she encounters.

Knowles' work has been shown in Toronto, Montreal and New York. One of her paintings was commemorated on the Saskatchewan stamp of the Canada Post series Canada Through the Eyes of its Artists. She has been creating art since the 1950s and she is widely recognized as a significant Canadian artist.

The public is invited to a reception featuring Dorothy Knowles and exhibition curator Terry Fenton. It will be held at the Chapel Gallery on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. For more information please contact the Chapel Gallery at 445-1757.

Support for this program is provided by the Saskatchewan Arts Board and the City of North Battleford.
