Museum plans Century of Weddings display

The Borden Museum display for 2012 - 2013 will be A Century of Weddings and they are looking for dresses or accessories and photos that people would share to make this display possible.

An anniversary wall with photos of local couples celebrating 40 - 70-plus years together is also planned. All pictures will be scanned and returned ASAP and the scans will become part of their permanent collection.

In the Lodge basement they hope to have an animal theme featuring metal or wood sculptures that so many creative people in the area have done. Other possibilities are taxidermy and pictures.

Welcome to new people in Borden - Marc Koller and Mandi McTaggart, who are renting Dana Derbowka's new house on Main St.

Condolences are extended to Aeneas Precthl (Jane Zang) of Fielding on the loss of his mother Gennie Precthl at the age of 88 years. Gennie grew up in Denholm, worked in North Battleford, then married in 1946 and moved to Fielding and farmed with her husband Richard until 1979 before retiring.

The Borden junior boys' basketball team won the tournament at Blaine Lake Jan. 21 and the junior girls won the tournament at Martensville Saturday. Good going to both teams.

The Borden Museum held a whist drive Jan. 19 with 16 players out, some coming on a very cold night from Langham. Winning for the highest score in men was Jean Sawchyn (there weren't enough men playing) and for the ladies Lorraine Olinyk, with Judy Dyck winning for low hand. The museum served coffee and dainties.

The Borden First Responders are looking for more new responders to join up as some are retiring. A training session will be held Feb. 11 and 18 in the Borden Seniors' Room from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each Saturday, plus CPR training prior to that. For info, call Ian Wainwright at 997-2165.

The Borden 4-H Light Horse Club have two well-known cowboy poets coming to Borden - Lee Bellows and Ed Brown - for a roast beef supper and entertainment Feb. 11 in the Borden Community Centre. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and supper is at 6 p.m., with program and silent auction to follow. Tickets are advance only and will not be sold at the door; there are still some left. World Day of Prayer is Mar. 2 and in Radisson the Lutheran Church hosts and in Borden the Anglican Church hosts the event, both at 2 p.m.

The annual potluck supper and program put on by the Borden Threshermen's Club is Mar. 3 at 6 p.m. in the Borden Community Centre.

The snowmobile rally that was to have been held Jan. 21 is now being held Mar. 10 with registration at 10 a.m. and last rider out at 2 p.m. from the Borden Community Centre. Lunch from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and a ham supper at 5 p.m. are available. If there's insufficient snow at that time, the prizes will still be drawn for and the supper will still go ahead. Upcoming in Radisson are bingo for the swimming pool Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m., a senior hockey dance Feb. 11 at 9 p.m., both in the Radisson Hall, and a supper planning meeting for the future Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m., also in the hall, Radisson's Shirtsleeve Bonspiel Mar. 22 - 25 with the banquet on the 24, a public town meeting at 7:30 p.m. Mar. 28 and there will be a dinner theatre Mar. 30, 31 and Apr. 1.
