The Paynton Volunteers have been raising money for a beautification project, the "crop circle" flower bed. This projectwas started last year by Amy Steiger and local volunteers from the farmers' market and around the village. The group is approximately onethird of the way to their goal with funding from a TIPS grant helping out.

Paynton Library Ladies will be serving lunch at the kitchen to raise money for the library.

Ditch picking 101: don't litter and people won't have to pick ditches.

Paynton volunteer firefighters and several volunteers from ages 12 to 70 werealong Highway16 Victoria Day long weekend. Encountered was everything from animal bones tobaby diapers, a fax machine tohypodermic needles, tire scraps, rubber matsand lots and lots of fast food garbage. The coffee cups, cigarette packs, gum packages and beer/beverage bottles and cans topped the list.

Someitems will stay unmentioned as they were too icky to be published.

Havingtwo government clean upcontracts available, the firefighters decided to stick with only one. The lack of volunteers made for small groups out on the roads. Because of the poor turnout, the department was not able to fulfill both contracts and only made it from the east entrance of Paynton to the Bresaylor exit.

The firefighters appreciate every piece of garbage picked up by the additional volunteers who helped them raise $1,500 towards new firefighting equipment like water packs and safety equipment.

This weekend could not have happened without the generous donation of time, money and lots of great food from somevisitors of the volunteersandmany members of our community. Cindy'sPlace Restaurant, Can Ameri Trucking and Ron Hanson donated food and money to keep the volunteers fed and hydrated.
