A family pet went missing from his back yard in North Battleford Nov 10. He was found Dec. 12 by Trent Ilett north of the city.

Trent runs his dogs every day in the area where this dog was found. For the past five days his dogs kept going into the same bush, but would come out when he called. That day they didn't, so he went in to see why and found them laying beside a little broken dog, who had been tied to a tree and left for dead.

The leash (a green wire cable type) was wrapped around the tree four feet up above a branch and clasped, in other words the dog did not get tangled. Someone purposely tied it there. He was just skin and bones, had an open wound on his ear and fur missing all over his body.

At the vet clinic, they determined the wire leash and his collar had more than likely caused the injuries, as he was tangled in it and was desperately trying to get out of his collar. They also felt he had been there for at least a week because the wound on his ear had already started healing.

After the dog was done at the vet clinic, Trent brought him out to Jeanette's and she recognized the little guy as Scruffles, whom she grooms and boards on a regular basis. His family was called and Scruffles' ordeal was over. Scruffles was so happy to see them and one of the little boys said to his mom, "mama this is a Christmas miracle and God brought Scruffles home."

Obviously, Scruffles wasn't tied out there for a month, so where was he? Who took him? Who had him? Who did this? Who could do this? If anyone has any information, please contact the RCMP (file No. 2011-1561083).
