Students raise money for cancer research

A successful Terry Fox Fun was held Sept. 30 at Maymont Central School. Over $1,200 was raised for cancer research. Maymont Central celebrated Education Week Oct. 18 - 22.

Maymont Central celebrated Education Week Oct. 18 - 22. A fruit and muffin breakfast was hosted Tuesday morning for students, staff, parents, and community members. Wednesday, students and staff painted tiles to add to the "Together We Are Better " mural in the school entrance. A schoolyard cleanup was held Thursday afternoon. Students and staff gathered in their virtue groups and then went out to clean. Mrs. Fouhy held draws during the week to celebrate Library Week. Students' names were drawn to win books.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Nickell on the birth of their son Oct.18. Best wishes to them as they begin their family.

Driver training for Maymont and Hafford students began Oct. 19. In-class training is held Tuesdays at Maymont and Thursdays in Hafford.

The playground committee has been busy assembling tables, making a beach volleyball court and erecting a quadhoop for the playground. The committee held a fruit sale and orderscan be picked up at the school when they arrive.

Interim reports for kindergarten to Grade 12 students went home Oct. 15. First term report cards go out Nov. 10 with parent-teacher interviews on the evenings of Nov. 17 and 18.

The Grade 11 and 12 students are focusing on their future. Oct. 14 the students went to the University of Saskatchewan for Experience Us. They were able to learn about some of the colleges and programs as well as take in the atmosphere of the campus. Nov. 1 the students will be attending a career fair in Saskatoon where they will learn about many post-secondary institutions in Canada as well as the United States. They have also had a variety of speakers come in to discuss everything from college to work place safety. The students are a little overwhelmed, but excited about their futures.

The senior girls' volleyball team hosted a league game Oct. 6. Maymont won both matches against J.P. II and Hafford. Oct. 16, the girls attended a four-team tournament in Neilburg. They played well all day and managed to win silver with Neilburg getting the gold. The girls are looking forward to attending a tournament in Hafford.

The senior boys' volleyball team has been doing well this year. They attended a tournament in Leoville. They lost out to Glaslyn in the final and returned home with silver. Their most recent tournament was in Hillmond/Lashburn. They went 6-1 in the round robin and played Goodsoil in the final to return home victorious. Their next scheduled tournament will be on Nov. 6 at Maymont.
