Seniors active with cards and bingo

Cards were cancelled Nov. 11 as a number of Maidstone Drop In Centre members wished to attend the service held at the Legion Hall. Bingo was played Nov. 13 with Margaret MacEachern and Jean Hartman doing the calling. Tillie Linkert provided lunch.

Santa Claus visited in Waseca Dec. 1. He came to the community centre where he was met by an excited group. The Waseca Heritage Group is sponsoring a Christmas celebration at 2 p.m. Dec 22.

It was 1908 when Charlie Davis donated a windswept acre of prairie at Lilac for St. Mary's Anglican Church. Lilac bushes and a stone cairn now mark the spot where the church once stood.

Still revelling in Rider Pride, I love seeing all those green flags on cars and homes. It's a weird feeling to be watching Olympic curling trials this week and still be talking about the Riders.

The annual Christmas concert held in the Meota Community Complex the evening of Dec. 1 went off without a hitch. It is spearheaded by Ann and Charles Baillargeon with many volunteers from the Meota Lions Club Mens Choir pitching in to help.

The countryside has been a Christmas card of beauty this past weekend as the heavy hoar frost was loaded on the trees and everything outside was so heavily coated it just had to drop off like snow, as the air moisture lessened on Monday.

Roller-coaster year for senior boys' volleyball team

The senior boys' volleyball team have put another full season in the books for the 2013/14 school year. This year the team was made up of five Grade 12 students, two in Grade 11, a Grade 10 and one Grade 9.
