Well, we almost made it to Christmas break without a snow day but the horrible wind chill Friday meant the buses were unable to run. Hopefully it will be the only one until after Christmas break.

Much has been said over the past several months about efforts to revive the downtown district. Getting people to think positively again about downtown is a challenge, given the disrepair the area fell into in the last number of years.

I must give thanks to Leola Macdonald for researching and writing a draft on Nora Hickson-Kelly. She did an excellent job and her work is much appreciated. Nora Hickson was born in England.

Have you done your Christmas baking yet? If you missed the bake sales at the Zion Lutheran Church and Third Avenue Church last weekend, you still have a chance to let someone else do your baking this year.

One of the most well known seasonal oratorios, The Messiah, will be performed at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts in North Battleford Monday.

The Western Development Museum's 2013 Great Escapes Vacation Raffle is now complete and ticket sales for the 2014 raffle are well underway.

The four-part harmony chorus Battlefords Blend is presenting a centennial Christmas show and sale Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Dekker Center for the Performing Arts in North Battleford.

Battleford violin student Victoria Mahmood has won a 2013 Royal Conservatory gold medal for scoring the top mark in Saskatchewan on the Grade 3 Violin examination. Victoria is the daughter of Therese and Dr. Yasin Mahmood.

The Borden Friendship Club held their first bingo of the season Nov. 21 with quite a number out to play in the cold night. Winners received $15 and tiebreakers a consolation prize.

Jimmie and Greyson Stewart of Lloydminster stopped in to see grandma Jean Stewart on their way home from North Battleford where Greyson was playing hockey.
