In the Community

Though the weather had stayed reasonably warm until the weekend, it has snowed off and on this past weekend, with some wind too. We don't have as much snow as many other areas around.

The monthly meeting of the Maidstone Drop In Centre was held at the centre Nov. 1 with Margaret MacEachern presiding. Jean Hartman read the minutes from the last meeting Vera Hintz gave the financial report in the absence of treasurer Denise Newton.

More than 100 ladies wearing pink and teal attended the Wilkie CWL's annual Pink Night, which was held on Oct. 16 at St. James Parish. This year's event focused on both breast and ovarian cancer.

Brendon Warwaruk joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1990, making him a 23-year veteran of service in 2013. He originally joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a naval signalman, which has become the naval communicator trade.

Last year by this time we had already lamented a month's worth of winter, and we had no idea what Mother Nature had in store for us from November 2012 to April 2013.

It is nice to see Lyle Sutherland in the community again. He returned home recently after spending a year working at Langley, B.C. Waseca council is once again sponsoring a Christmas lighting program.

Borden School held their Remembrance Day service Nov. 7. MCs were Mackenzie Piprell and Brooklyn Gader and organizers Mr. Dyck and the Grade 10 History class.

What is Remembrance Day to you? It means different things to different people.

The senior girls' B volleyball team travelled to Unity recently for their final tournament of the season. According to Ms. Chammartin, they competed, performed and represented the school well in all of their matches.

This is a busy time of year for Battlefords Art Club members with all the various events. This past weekend we enjoyed a workshop and are working on pictures of angels for the coming gallery exhibition.
