In the Community

Yards and garden are keeping residents busy, the wet summer has promoted lots of weed growth and the grass needs frequent cutting. It is good to see the village lily and perennial beds thriving.

I had asked Dorothy Elliott to write a little something for me about moving from the farm to the city and then I realized I moved from the city to a village.

A digital photograph and video presentation in North Battleford on Canada Day may have featured out of town artists, but it certainly caught the interest of local residents.

Canada Day was the perfect date for the special recognition event adjacent to the display of flags and the flower garden that greets those entering North Battleford from the south.

Hugh McPhail (affectionately referred to as "Howdy" from a young age) was delivered by his father in a blizzard at Bankend on March 14, 1914. He attended local schools and later Notre Dame College at Wilcox on a hockey scholarship.

Quilt maker Heather Hochbaum has donated a quilt to the Western Development Musuem. Cheryl Stewart, WDM volunteer co-ordinator, says the quilt is being offered as a raffle prize.

The graduating class began their festivities with their awards banquet June 26. The meal was held at the Edam Community Centre and was catered by Mim's Catering of Edam.
