WDM's Those Were the Days offered something for everyone

Those Were the Days, put on by the Western Development Museum, offered some much needed entertainment for the sometimes boring summer days. People young and old took in the many shows that were offered.

Sewing away the summer months

Although business meetings were suspended during the summer months for members of the Rivers' Edge Quilt Guild, many avid quilters met at the Don Ross Craft Room to pursue their passion for the art during the months of June, July and August.

Howard Weitzel: A true champion

Howard Weitzel was born on Dec. 8, 1921, the third oldest child, to Alvin and Maude (Stevens) Weitzel at Edam. He received his elementary education (Grades 1 through 8) at Horse Hill School, which was located nine miles northwest of Edam.

Thirteen members of River's Edge Quilters rallied together in July to sew quilt tops for people affected by the flood in Calgary and southern Alberta. Carol Johnson shared the quilting technique for sewing jelly roll race quilt tops.

Prizes offered by summer reading program

The Neilburg branch of the Lakeland Library has been a busy place recently. Story time was held June 14 and a time of games and crafts was held July 10. The summer reading program is now underway with prizes for participation.
