For Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, Colleen Wicks, local librarian, held an open house at the Speers Library for children and adults. Five adults and two children attended. Colleen had them make Valentines and they were put in a box for a draw.

The big news this week has been the weather. Strong winds and snow began early Wednesday morning. By late afternoon many roads had become impassable. Some of us were lucky to get home. Locally there were some people who didn't get home that evening.

Maidstone Museum held its annual meeting and election of officers Monday at the museum.

The monthly meeting of the Maidstone Drop In Centre was held March 8 with Margaret MacEachern in the chair. Profit made from cards and bingo for the month of February was sent to Telemiracle and amounted to $132.

What a lot of shovelling. I enjoy shovelling, to a point, but this is a bit much for a great-great-granny. There came a day, however, when I was glad for the big banks of snow. I went upstairs to check the snow on the garage roof.

Easter is almost upon us, and if you haven't done your baking yet, no worries. Stop by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Ladies' Easter Bake Sale on Thursday, March 28 starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Co-op Mall.

The 2014 Battlefords Kiwanis Music Festival opened Tuesday with two days of band performances followed by one day of string performances. Vocal performances begin Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Logie Hall at the Third Avenue United Church.

The annual meeting of the North Battleford Action Now Seniors' Centre was held March 18.

Leo Mann was born on Dec. 30, 1941, the 10th of 15 children, to Anton and Mary Mann at Gravelbourg. Leo took Grades 1 through 4 at Hodgeville, Grades 5 through 9 at Unity and Grades 10, 11 and 12 at St. Thomas College in North Battleford.
